Uzbekistan head coach Fabio Cannavaro said someone inside the national team spread false information about his coaching staff during the 2026 World Cup, Uz Daily reported.
The 52-year-old Italian said there had been an informant in the team who put out a great deal of false information, and suggested this may have happened because he is a foreign coach. He said the rules his staff follows were not his own invention but European standards.
Cannavaro defends his methods
Cannavaro noted that the team's previous coach was a local specialist who achieved good results, but said that should not be used as grounds to criticize him.
Under Cannavaro, Uzbekistan had a poor World Cup, losing 1:3 to Colombia, 0:5 to Portugal, and 1:3 to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
