CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson was taken in by a parody social media account that falsely claimed LeBron James had signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, reposting the fabricated report before taking it down the following morning.
The fake post came from an account with the handle @ShamsCharama, impersonating ESPN reporter Shams Charania. It claimed James had agreed to a one-year deal with Philadelphia, joining Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid as the Sixers made a push for the 2026-27 NBA title.
The post was shared more than 1,000 times on X. Wolfson’s repost drew particular attention because of her standing in sports media. The University of Michigan product has worked five Super Bowl sidelines and recently won an Emmy Award. Her repost stayed up for hours before she removed it Tuesday morning.
Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley also stumbled over James’s free-agency situation. Beverley, who played in Greece last season, did not fall for the parody account but posted his own erroneous claim on Monday, writing that James would make his decision that day. The following morning he posted that his source had lied to him.
Agent Rich Paul Urges Patience
James’s agent Rich Paul confirmed his client is considering 10 potential teams for next season, including the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and the 76ers. Paul said on his podcast that no decision was imminent and that no team needed to do anything extra to make its case.
