The Chicago White Sox have acquired right-handed starting pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners, in a trade that sends reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones and catching prospect Boston Smith to Seattle.
The deal, finalized Saturday, has Chicago assuming the entirety of Castillo's remaining contract, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations cited by ESPN.
Contract details
Castillo, 33, is owed about $7.25 million for the rest of the 2026 season. His contract calls for a $22.75 million salary in 2027, plus a vesting option worth $25 million for 2028 that activates automatically if he reaches 180 innings pitched.

The three-time All-Star is having an uneven 2026 season, posting a 5.06 ERA with 7.8 strikeouts per nine innings across 99.2 innings and 17 starts. Over his ten-year career split between Cincinnati and Seattle, Castillo has a 3.65 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings. White Sox management is banking on his experience and veteran presence, and he is expected to lead a rebuilding rotation that includes Davis Martin and Sean Burke.

Seattle receives Dominican reliever Seranthony Domínguez, who had 12 saves and a 4.10 ERA in 42 relief appearances for the White Sox after signing a two-year, $20 million free agent deal. Domínguez is owed $10 million for next season.
The trade also sends outfielder Nolan Jones and 23-year-old catching prospect Boston Smith to Seattle. Smith ranked 15th among Chicago's top prospects after hitting 22 home runs with a 1.037 OPS in the minors this year.
