Chiefs Camp Erupts in Two Fights, Kelce Steps In

The Kansas City Chiefs saw two fights break out among teammates during practice on Saturday as training camp tensions boiled over.

The first skirmish involved safety Alohi Gilman and running back Kenneth Walker, the Super Bowl MVP who joined the team after leaving the Seattle Seahawks. During an 11-on-11 drill, Walker carried the ball out of bounds to end the play, and Gilman ran over and shoved him after the whistle.

Walker responded by butting heads with Gilman. Gilman then walked away and turned his back, giving Walker the chance to sprint after him and tackle him to the ground.

Chiefs players got into two fights in Saturday practice, including this above fight which started when safety Alohi Gilman shoved RB Kenneth Walker (9) after a play had ended

Multiple teammates, including tight end Travis Kelce, rushed in to separate the two as they continued tussling on the ground. The players eventually calmed down and walked away without further incident.

After some jawing, Walker then charged Gilman and tackled him - leading to teammates needing to intervene in order to break up the fighting

Second fight breaks out

In a separate altercation, offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah threw punches at each other. Suamataia appeared to rip off Anudike-Uzomah's helmet before swinging. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid were among those who stepped in to break up the fight.

Patrick Mahomes has previously praised the competitive nature of the training camps

Mahomes on camp intensity

Mahomes has recently spoken about the intensity of training camp. He said the team had gone six straight days facing the same opponents in practice, calling the competitiveness on both sides of the ball great for the team.

Mahomes said there were a few scuffles here and there but nothing crazy, adding that as long as it stayed that way and the team kept competing, it would produce the best football team possible.
