Chris Eubank Jr mocked his fierce rival Conor Benn after Benn suffered a heavy defeat by Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Benn, 29, was stopped in the second round as he challenged Garcia for the WBC welterweight crown. He was dropped by a right hook in round two, and although he beat the count, he struggled to fend off Garcia's follow-up attack, prompting referee Thomas Taylor to stop the fight.
Eubank Jr took to X shortly after the fight ended to needle his long-time rival. "Welcome to the 'fighting after cutting too much weight' club… Enjoy," he wrote.
The dig referenced the fact that Benn's bout with Garcia was his first at welterweight in four years. Benn had spent that time fighting at middleweight, including two bitter clashes with Eubank Jr last year, and had to cut weight to make the welterweight limit against Garcia, just as Eubank Jr had to do for their own showdowns.
Eubank Jr's own weight struggles
Eubank Jr had earlier shown support for Garcia, posting a photo with him ahead of the fight with the caption "Get the job done kid."
For his two fights against Benn last year, Eubank Jr had to cut down to 160lbs. He missed that weight for the first bout before making the limit for the second, giving extra sting to his post-fight jibe at Benn's own weight cut.
Garcia's first title defence
Garcia's win over Benn was his first defence of the WBC welterweight title. Benn was taken to hospital afterwards as a precaution.
Speaking after the fight, Garcia said he had not been at full fitness. "I have always had the right hand," he said. "But I carried a lot of injuries, so I couldn't really show it."
He also addressed questions about his background, saying: "I know people question my Mexican heritage because I don't speak Spanish. But I always feel my people with me and I do it for them."
Looking ahead, Garcia named two potential future opponents. "Teofimo Lopez can get it next," he said. "I want to clean the division out. I want Devin Haney's a** again, too."
