Polish fighter Damian Piwowarczyk earned an Ultimate Fighting Championship contract on Tuesday night by stopping Emilio Quissua with a first-round technical knockout in Las Vegas.
The light heavyweight bout took place at Dana White's Contender Series, where fighters compete directly for a place on the UFC roster. Organization chief Dana White confirmed the contract at the end of the event, congratulating Piwowarczyk and telling him he had earned his spot in the UFC.
Piwowarczyk had to overcome early adversity in the fight against Quissua, an undefeated German competitor of Angolan heritage. Quissua started as the more active fighter, constantly peppering Piwowarczyk with straight punches and pressing him back against the cage fence.
The Polish fighter survived the difficult opening stretch and managed to work his way back out of trouble. Quissua then landed a powerful head kick, but Piwowarczyk appeared completely unfazed by the blow and immediately launched an aggressive counter-attack with a flurry of strikes.
After the two fighters tied up in the clinch several times, Piwowarczyk took control of the contest late in the opening round. He steadily increased the pressure and landed an increasing number of punches to Quissua's head.
First Round Technical Knockout
The decisive blow landed with 20 seconds remaining before the horn. Piwowarczyk struck Quissua in the jaw with a right hook, dropping the German fighter to the mat. Piwowarczyk immediately capitalized on the opening, unleashing a swift barrage of ground strikes to his opponent's head.
Quissua managed to regain his feet briefly, but collapsed back to the canvas after taking another strike. The referee intervened moments later to bring the contest to an official end, awarding Piwowarczyk a victory by technical knockout in the first round.

Dana White's Contender Series is a Las Vegas fight promotion created to discover top mixed martial arts prospects from around the world. Winners who deliver impressive performances are awarded contracts with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the world's leading MMA organization.
The exact date for Piwowarczyk's official UFC debut has not yet been announced. Speaking immediately following the bout, Piwowarczyk revealed a concerning setback, stating that he broke his foot during the fight and would need a medical evaluation before determining his next steps.
Piwowarczyk said that if his recovery allows, he would like to return to action in three to four months, aiming for a potential octagon debut early next year.
