English golfer Daniel Brown took a break during his Saturday round at the PGA Championship to smoke a cigarette with fans.
Playing at Aronimink in Pennsylvania, Brown stopped between the 12th and 13th holes. He posed for a photo with two spectators, all three of them with cigarettes in their mouths.
X user Casey Halpern posted the picture with a caption praising the golfer. Halpern wrote, "Nothing quite like a mid round moving day dart with Downtown Dan Brown after his 12th hole. There may be no bigger legend on the tour. A true man of the people."
Coping mechanism for nerves
The pause appeared to help Brown. He had dropped down the leaderboard following a double bogey on the third hole. After the stop, he made birdie on his final three holes to finish with an even-par 70, leaving him tied for 53rd place.
Brown is known for smoking on the golf course. He drew attention for lighting up while leading The Open at Royal Troon in 2024. He has previously called the habit a "coping mechanism" for tournament nerves.
At the 2024 event, Brown said he was "sneaking" cigarettes during his rounds. He called the practice "a bit of a bad habit that I've got into."
His appearance at Aronimink is his first PGA Championship. It also marks the first time he has played in a major tournament outside the United Kingdom.
Brown tied for 10th at Royal Troon in 2024, which remains his best career finish. He missed the cut at The Open in Portrush in 2025, and he has never competed in the Masters or the US Open.
