The Dominican Republic mixed 4x100m relay team was disqualified and stripped of its gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games. The competition department announced the decision after the quartet completed the race in 40.89 seconds.
The team comprised Fiordaliza Cofil, Mayovanex de Oleo, José González and Liranyi Alonso. Officials reported that the runners committed obstruction on the first baton exchange and invaded an adjacent lane on the last exchange.
Despite the result for the delegation, the team demonstrated power, speed and competitive capacity on the track in relay events.
Podium Adjustments and Video Review
The disqualification modified the final podium standings. Jamaica received the gold medal with a time of 41.06 seconds, Cuba took silver in 41.18 seconds, and Puerto Rico claimed bronze with 41.39 seconds.
Colombia finished fourth in 41.55 seconds, followed by Venezuela in fifth at 41.79 seconds and Barbados in sixth at 42.21 seconds. Mexico was also disqualified from the event for reasons that remain unknown, according to news agency EFE.
The Dominican delegation appealed the decision. The jury is now using video referee review to confirm the infractions penalised on the track.
