The Dominican Republic’s 59 medals through Thursday at the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 have committed the state to at least 45.4 million pesos in incentives, based on prize rates announced by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec).
The delegation stood at 10 gold medals, 13 silver and 36 bronze after competition on July 30 at the 25th edition of the games.
Miderec’s individual-sport rates pay athletes 300,000 pesos for gold, 150,000 for silver and 100,000 for bronze. Coaches receive 200,000, 100,000 and 75,000 pesos respectively, while sports federations collect 700,000 per gold, 600,000 per silver and 400,000 per bronze.
One medal, one payment
Athletes who win more than one medal receive only the incentive tied to their best finish. Those affected include water skier Francesca Pigozzi, who won three bronze medals and one silver; rower Ignacio Vásquez, who collected three silvers; and badminton player Yonatan Linarez, who took bronze in men’s doubles and mixed doubles. The same cap applies to coaches.
The 45.4 million peso figure is an estimate. Miderec has not confirmed how many coaches will qualify, and it remains unclear whether competitors in team-format events within individual disciplines, such as mixed-team judo and taekwondo, will be paid under individual or team rates.
For team sports, the rates are 3.2 million pesos for gold, 2.8 million for silver and 1.6 million for bronze. The only team medal so far belongs to the rugby sevens squad, which beat Trinidad and Tobago 17-12 for bronze.
