President Donald Trump attended the third round of LIV Golf's New York event at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Saturday. The appearance came just under one year after his showing on the first day of the Ryder Cup.
Trump drove around his course in a golf cart as throngs of fans cheered his arrival. The President and a heavy security detail made their way to the clubhouse, closely followed by his daughter, Ivanka Trump.
Trump greeted fans and high-fived them as he passed by. The greeting occurred around the time LIV Golf player and YouTuber Bryson DeChambeau was teeing off on the 16th hole.
Trump arrived in the area on Friday evening as Air Force One touched down just before 6:00 p.m. ET. The presidential motorcade then shepherded him to the course through a nasty thunderstorm that swept across the Northeastern United States.
LIV Golf Funding and Venues
Trump has been a longtime supporter of LIV Golf, the tour formerly backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Earlier this year, the fund announced it would stop financially supporting LIV Golf after the current season ends.
Earlier this week, LIV Golf announced it had secured funding for the 2027 season, though little further detail was revealed. Over the course of its existence, the tour has frequented golf courses owned by Trump's holding company.
Earlier this year, the tournament was held at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C. LIV Golf has also hosted a Miami event at the Blue Monster course at Trump National Doral in the past.
PGA Tour Merger Comments
In the past, Trump has attempted to bring a peaceful conclusion to the civil war between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.
"I do believe that all of the golfers should be playing against each other. They were viewing something as a monopoly, but it's swaying away. It should be the opposite of a monopoly," Trump told reporters in April.
"I want to see Rory playing Bryson DeChambeau. I want to see big Jon Rahm playing Scottie, who is so great. Scottie Scheffler is great," Trump said.
"They have great players on LIV, but it's almost like people want to see that. That's why the Masters was so good, because you saw everybody together," he added.
