Ewa Pajor scored on the opening weekend of the Spanish women's league season as FC Barcelona defeated Costa Adeje Tenerife 5-0 at home.
The Polish striker scored her side's third goal early in the second half to help the Catalan club secure all three points on matchday one of the domestic campaign.
Barcelona dominated from the start and established a 2-0 lead before half-time, with Spanish forward Claudia Pina among the first-half goalscorers. Pajor extended the lead in the 48th minute, beating the Tenerife goalkeeper to head home a precise cross from Norwegian winger Caroline Graham Hansen. Later in the second half, Renee van Asten and Irene Paredes added two more goals to round off a comfortable 5-0 victory for the host team.
Goalscoring competition
Pajor's goal leaves her tied 1-1 with Pina in their internal team duel for the top scorer title this season. Pina finished as the leading goalscorer in the Spanish top flight last season with 20 goals, while Pajor's tally of 16 goals fell short of the league crown. However, Pajor finished as the top scorer in the 2025/26 Women's Champions League after scoring 11 goals in European competition.
Following the departure of striker Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona's men's team, Pajor now carries the sole burden of scoring Polish goals for the Spanish club. The forward is determined to reclaim the crown as the most prolific goalscorer in Spain.
First match without Putellas
The victory marked Barcelona's first official match of the new era following the departure of legendary midfielder Alexia Putellas, who signed for English side London City Lionesses. Even without their former captain, Barcelona remain the primary candidates to retain their domestic league title without major competition.
Barcelona continue their league campaign on Saturday, 5 September, when they travel to face Sevilla in an away fixture scheduled for 20:30. Sevilla started their own season with a 1-0 victory against Deportivo La Coruna.
