Ewa Swoboda advanced to the women's 100 metres final at the European Championships on Monday evening after clocking 11.04 seconds in her semifinal heat, finishing third.
Her Polish teammate Kryscina Cimanouska, the national runner-up, was eliminated after finishing last in the first semifinal with a time of 11.44 seconds.
How the semifinals unfolded
The semifinals began at 9:10 p.m. In the first heat, Amy Hunt (10.99s) and Patrizia van der Weken (11.08s) advanced. In the second, Geraldine di Tizio-Frey (11.02s) and Zaynab Dosso (11.11s) took the top two spots, with Dina Asher-Smith (11.10s) and Imani Lansiquot (11.16s) finishing third in the two heats.
Swoboda's heat started at 9:26 p.m. The results board briefly showed her tied with Belgium's Delphine Nkansa at 11.10 seconds before organizers corrected the times, giving Nkansa 11.09 seconds and third place to Hungary's Boglarka Takacs in 11.13 seconds, her season best.
Fastest losers and the final field
Dina Asher-Smith and Salome Kora advanced as the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers. Takacs missed a final spot by 0.01 seconds. The final field is Hunt, di Tizio-Frey, Swoboda, van der Weken, Nkansa, Asher-Smith, Dosso and Kora (11.12s). The 100m final is scheduled for 10:50 p.m., closing Monday's competition.
