Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler debuted a shaved head on Saturday as his side earned a 3-0 pre-season friendly win against Roma at the Amex Stadium.

The 33-year-old German coach surprised fans with his touchline look, which differed vastly from the full head of hair he sported when Brighton finished their Premier League season against Manchester United in May.

Hurzeler had previously been seen with a shaved head while working as a pundit and watching matches during the summer World Cup. Brighton fans commented on his hair throughout their build-up to the new Premier League season, with supporters convinced he has undergone a hair transplant.

Fan Reaction and Hair Transplant Speculation

"Couldn't even focus on what the coach said, his head," one fan responded to a post-match interview, while another wrote, "I'm sorry Fab but your hair distracted me."

A third supporter said Hurzeler had "previously been open about having had one [a transplant] done, maybe he needed a top," while another claimed he "had a previous hair transplant which probably didn't give him the density he wanted so had been using hair fibres to 'thicken' his hair up" before deciding to get another hair transplant.

Brighton fans have speculated during pre-season that Hurzeler has undergone a hair transplant

Hurzeler previously suggested he had undergone a hair transplant after joking about comparisons between him and former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp during his first season at Brighton.

"In England I'm already being compared to Jurgen - which we can leave alone because he was much more successful and had a unique career," Hurzeler told BILD in 2024. "The only comparison that fits is that we both had our hair enhanced a bit."

Hurzeler also saw his haircut scrutinised by fans after being appointed Brighton manager back in 2024, with comparisons made to Jim Carrey's character in the film 'Dumb and Dumber'.

Pre-Season Victory Over Roma

Brighton earned a 3-0 victory over Roma in their pre-season match, with Georginio Rutter opening the scoring for the Seagulls and Yasin Ayari scoring either side of half-time.

New signings Luka Vuskovic, Costinha and Zadoc Yohanna were involved in the fixture, but Brighton suffered a scare when Yankuba Minteh limped off injured.

"We took it quite seriously. I think also Roma took it quite seriously," Hurzeler said after the match.

"In their pressing, we could see that they had really analysed us and they tried to make it difficult for us. But overall, I think we brought a lot of energy and intensity on the pitch. We controlled the game with a good structure. In possession, we scored goals, we defended well, so overall it was a good performance."
