FC Porto, the reigning Portuguese champions, will face Académico de Viseu, runners-up in last season's Segunda Liga, in the quarterfinals of the Taça da Liga on 28 October, the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (LPFP) announced on Friday.
Kick-off is set for 8:30pm at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto. It will be the second meeting between the two clubs this season, after Porto beat Viseu 3-0 in the league championship.
The Estádio do Dragão is FC Porto's home ground in the city of Porto, in northern Portugal. Académico de Viseu are based in Viseu, in the country's central region, and finished as the second-placed team in the Segunda Liga, Portugal's second tier, last season.
Other quarterfinal fixtures
Sporting Clube de Portugal, runners-up in the last Primeira Liga, will host Marítimo, the Segunda Liga champions, in the opening quarterfinal match at 8:15pm on 27 October. Marítimo are based on the island of Madeira.
On 29 October, Benfica, who finished third in the last Primeira Liga, will play Gil Vicente, who finished sixth, at 8:45pm. That match kicks off two hours after Sporting Braga, fourth-placed last season, host Famalicão, who finished fifth. Gil Vicente are based in Barcelos and Famalicão in Vila Nova de Famalicão, both in northern Portugal.
Porto, Sporting, Benfica and Braga are widely regarded as Portugal's leading clubs and have dominated the Primeira Liga and its cup competitions for decades.
Defending champions will not feature
The competition will go ahead without last season's trophy holders, Vitória de Guimarães, who finished ninth in the Primeira Liga and so did not qualify to defend the title.
Taça da Liga history
The Taça da Liga is Portugal's League Cup, a knockout competition run alongside the Primeira Liga season and open to clubs from both the top flight and the Segunda Liga.
Benfica hold the record for most Taça da Liga triumphs, with eight titles, twice as many as Sporting. Sporting Braga follow with three titles, while Vitória de Setúbal, Moreirense, FC Porto and Vitória de Guimarães have each won the competition once.
New VAR rules approved
In a separate decision, clubs approved the introduction of VAR reviews for corner-kick decisions and a new format for the Taça da Liga.
