Federico Girotti nearly left Alianza Lima after coach feud

Argentine striker Federico Girotti revealed he considered leaving Alianza Lima after arguing with manager Pablo Guede during his first season at the Peruvian club.

The 27-year-old former River Plate forward arrived with high expectations from supporters, but he spent the first part of the campaign on the bench while clashing with Guede.

Speaking on the show Al Volante, Girotti said tensions peaked before a derby match against Universitario when Guede left him out of the squad following a midweek argument. Girotti admitted he disobeyed Guede at times because he felt he deserved a different role, leading him to speak with the Navarros to discuss leaving before they calmed him down.

Rebuilding the relationship

Despite the initial conflict, Girotti said he later held a clear-the-air conversation with Guede, where both men acknowledged their mistakes and agreed to start their relationship completely from scratch. The striker has since become one of the most frequently used players for Alianza Lima at the start of the Liga 1 Torneo Clausura.

Alianza Lima currently top the Torneo Clausura standings after defeating Alianza Atletico at Matute. They will play their fourth match of the competition away against Sport Boys at the Estadio Nacional on Saturday, August 8 at 8:00 p.m.
