Ferran Torres Scores Twice on PSG Debut vs Rennes

Ferran Torres scored twice on his official debut for Paris Saint-Germain, coming off the bench after half-time to rescue a 2-2 draw away to Stade Rennes at Roazhon Park on the opening weekend of the Ligue 1 season.

The former Barcelona forward started the match on the bench and was brought on by head coach Luis Enrique to replace Ousmane Dembele. The Spanish coach also withdrew Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at the interval as he looked to turn the game around, with Rennes leading 2-0 at the break.

A standout debut

Torres entered alongside fellow substitute Mika Godts. Poland's Sebastian Szymanski and Esteban Lepaul had put Frank Haise's Rennes side 2-0 ahead in the first half. In the second half, with both goals set up by Fabian Ruiz, the Spanish striker turned the game around and salvaged a point for his new club.

Torres scored his first goal with a crossed shot after beating the offside trap, then added a second with a header eight minutes from the end. According to the source, no player, including Neymar, Kylian Mbappe or Lionel Messi, had ever had as prolific a PSG debut as Torres.

The intermittent fasting routine

Torres said his form was no accident, crediting a dietary routine he says has changed his life. In an interview, he explained that he has long practised intermittent fasting and that the results, in his experience, have been positive.

He said he eats dinner at around 7:30pm or 8pm and does not eat again until 2pm the following day, a fasting window of close to 16 to 18 hours. He said he trains normally during that period, consuming only coffee before morning sessions with the club.

Torres said he had persuaded Pedri to try the method, and the Spain midfielder has since become a committed follower of it. Pedri said Torres, who already practised intermittent fasting, encouraged him to try it, and that he has felt much better since, so he plans to continue with it for now.

They are not the only ones. Marcos Llorente, Sergio Ramos and Luis Enrique, now Torres's coach at PSG, also practise intermittent fasting, according to the article.

What the science says

Intermittent fasting can help improve body composition, optimise the use of fat as an energy source and give the digestive system a rest, according to the article. It does not directly increase speed or strength on the pitch, but can serve as a useful weight-control tool during the off-season.

The article outlined several potential benefits. Fasting can help reduce body fat without affecting muscle mass, provided enough calories and protein are consumed. It can also improve metabolic flexibility, training the body to burn fat more efficiently as fuel during exercise.

Other benefits cited include digestive rest, which allows the gut to recover after periods of high calorie intake and can reduce bloating, and improved insulin sensitivity, which helps regulate blood sugar and nutrient management. Some players also simply find it more comfortable to train in the morning without eating beforehand.
