Oksana failed to win a medal at the Paris Games
Ukrainian Oksana Livach commented on her performance at Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
“I expected a better fight from myself. I didn’t want to lose like that, but my opponent was worthy. I knew it would be a tough fight, but I believed in victory. I could do it. But perhaps she was better prepared, found the keys to defeat me. She had her first attack, and she realized that she could still do it.”
“Of course, I wanted to fight and win, there was a chance to fight for gold. But it is what it is. I think that this is also a great achievement, to reach such a level and compete for medals at the Olympic Games.”
“Second fifth place? Stability, but it would be better if this stability was with a medal. We have to go through this, I don’t know what to say. I was ready mentally and physically, everything was great. And to get to the final. I fought very closely with the Indian, I just lost my chance.”
“This [олимпийский] the cycle was extremely difficult: after Tokyo there were injuries, rehabilitation, and then the winning of licenses quickly began again. Now we can breathe a little and prepare for [Олимпиаду] in Los Angeles. Age allows, strength too. There are chances, we must fight to the end.”
“Last time I cried, now I understand what is there to cry about. Maybe I’ll go and cry somewhere myself. But I want to thank everyone for their support, all Ukrainians. Of course, I want to give moments of victory, but today is like this. Let’s be happy with what we have.”
The Ukrainian in the 50 kg weight category fought for the bronze with the Japanese Yui Susaki. The match ended with a convincing victory for the Japanese – 10:0. Let us remind you that Susaki is the Olympic champion of Tokyo-2020.
Livac got a chance to fight for bronze due to the disqualification of Indian representative Vinesh Phogat, who failed to weigh in and did not fit into the 50 kg weight category. Instead, American Anne Hildenbrandt, who lost in the semi-final the day before, entered the final. Accordingly, Livac missed the repechage bout and took part in the bronze one straight away.
Interestingly, at the previous Olympics in Tokyo, Livac also fought for the bronze medal, but lost to American Sarah Hildebrandt.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
