Tásio Maia dos Santos, a 41-year-old former Brazilian striker, was killed in Rio de Janeiro when a wall collapsed during a severe storm that struck the city on a Wednesday. The collapse killed five people in total.
The wall fell on a street where Tásio was working at a historic mansion used as a wedding venue, situated with views of Sugarloaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue.
Anagennisi Epanomis, the Greek club where Tásio played during the 2011-12 season, announced his death and extended condolences to his family. During that stint, the forward made six appearances in Super League 2, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Tásio also had spells at Botafogo, Figueirense, and CSKA Sofia. Botafogo, where he played in 2015, described its sorrow at the loss and said the club extended solidarity to his relatives, friends, and all those who had known him.
