In Abu Dhabi, Esteban Ocon made it to the qualifying final and his teammate Fernando Alonso was 11th, but starts one position higher due to a penalty from Daniel Riccardo.
Esteban Ocon (8th): “I am very happy with qualifying and grateful to the team. We tried to maximize the car’s potential and added that with every session.
Our main competitors are fast this weekend, they are even faster than we expected, so tomorrow we have to concentrate fully on the battle, have a good race and score points.”
Fernando Alonso (11th): “Today, during qualifying, the car lacked speed, so we can be happy to start tenth. Results were tight in the first session and several cars fit into a tenth in the second.
We know it won’t be easy to overtake tomorrow, but this is the last time in my career that I will be driving for Alpine.
I am very happy that Sebastian Vettel made it to the final. It’s not that we’re trying to help him, but we’re following his results and we want him to have a smooth weekend.
Tomorrow he will start ninth and me tenth, I will be very careful at the start and the first lap. Let’s hope we both see the checkered flag.”
