At the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Pirelli will bring the “average” trio of compositions – C2, C3 and C4. The head of the racing division of the Italian company Mario Isola explained that such a set of tires will give the teams more strategic options.
Mario Isol: “Exactly the same line-ups that we brought to the 2019 Australian Grand Prix. Then there was a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and last year we went on an experiment and brought a milder C5 together with the C2 and C3 formulations. The one pit stop race was won by Charles Leclerc, all teams used Hard and Medium tires and Soft was only used in qualifying.
This weekend teams will have C2, C3 and C4 lineups at their disposal, which theoretically opens up more options for different strategy options. We expect the track to improve quickly over the weekend, which is typical for Melbourne. The tire load at Albert Park is mid-range and the track itself is smoother and faster after last year’s adjustments, which should increase overtaking and spectacle.”
