Newey: Cars will be significantly slower in 2026

In 2026, the technical regulations will change again in Formula 1, the wheelbase will be shorter, new power plants will appear that use biofuels, but with a more efficient electrical part. Adrian Newey believes that will make cars slower for several years as a result until engineers catch up…

Adrian Newey: “In Formula 1 everything is governed by the rules, otherwise the cars would look different. They look like missiles and are very unsafe. And we would regularly see tire explosions – if we could develop as much downforce as possible, the rubber just wouldn’t withstand such a load.

It is possible that this generation of cars will remain the fastest for a while, as the 2026 rules, as they stand now, suggest that cars will become significantly slower.”
