Jaime Alguersuari was a member of the Red Bull youth program and played for Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) from July 2009 until the end of 2011. The Spanish driver’s results did not suit Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko, so they stopped working with him.
Jaime Alguersuari hasn’t spoken to Marco in over a decade, but the partnership with the Austrian left the former rider so traumatized that he still has nightmares about it.
“I was lucky that Red Bull helped me over the years, but at that time I was a selfish and childish person,” Jaime Alguersuari told Spain’s El Confidencial. – I’ll tell you a secret – I still have strange dreams about that time. Especially about the powerlessness and disappointment that I didn’t succeed, about Marco, who was constantly angry and reprimanded us as children.
All this led to a psychological trauma – I’m sure Sebastien Buemi and many other riders have experienced this. I couldn’t forget, and after I left Formula 1, I had to go to therapy, I turned to different psychologists, but even after so many years, strange thoughts come to me.
Sometimes I wake up at night as if I’m crying – I dream I’ve ridden a beautiful circle, but in the end I still see Mr. Marco’s angry face.
