Sipho Maseti, the goalkeeper for South African club TS Galaxy, was sent off after handling the ball well outside his penalty area during his team's season-opening Premier Soccer League match away at Siwelele. Maseti appeared to mistake a rugby marking on the pitch for a football line.

The match finished 2-2, and Maseti was also blamed for the first goal scored by the home side, Siwelele.
How the red card happened
The incident occurred in stoppage time. Although he was standing about 10 meters outside his own penalty area, Maseti picked the ball up with his hands. The referee showed him a straight red card, leaving TS Galaxy to play the rest of the match with 10 players.
Football fan Fran Montes de Oca shared video of the play on social media, writing that people had not seen anything like it before. He described the TS Galaxy goalkeeper calmly picking up the ball against Siwelele while appearing to control the space around him.
