Greece is the U16 girls water polo world champion after defeating Spain 11-7 in the final of the tournament held in Zagreb, with Argyris Theodoropoulos as head coach.
The Greek team led from the start, building an 8-3 advantage by halftime. Each period at this level lasts six minutes. Spain pulled the score back to 9-5 but could not reduce the deficit further.
The period-by-period scores were 4-2, 4-1, 2-2 and 1-2.
Greece’s scorers were Elmisian (1), Tsigka (2), Lambatou (1), Manousakis (2), Moustaka (1), Bitsakou (2) and Lambropoulou (2).
