Heritage Resorts in Mauritius features two championship golf courses, La Reserve Golf Links and Le Chateau, alongside the Awali and Le Telfair beachfront hotels. Located on the south coast of the island, the entire country can be traveled from north to south in under two hours. The destination is reached via a 12-hour flight from London.
La Reserve Golf Links
La Reserve Golf Links was co-designed by Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen on the island's south coast. The front nine features high perched greens, including the third hole, where elevated positions create strong winds. Guests arriving for tee times receive access to an extensive pro shop, with a driving range and sloping putting green situated near the buggy pickup area.
The first tee requires a buggy ride of just shy of 10 minutes to the top of the hill, where golfers play downhill for the rest of the round. Golfers at the first tee are offered a welcome glass of whiskey or rum for morning tee times around 8am. The round finishes at the 18th hole adjacent to the clubhouse.
The first hole has an open fairway leading to a choked green, followed by a second hole requiring a drive over rough terrain with the narrowest fairway on the course. The fifth hole is a par five playing down the steepest part of the hill, requiring a carry of more than 250 yards to clear a left bunker and thick rough on the right. The sixth hole is a drivable par four along the water, while the seventh is a par three directly over water to a green bordered by thick rough. Holes 8 and 18 provide two distinct fairways for alternate routes of attack.
Le Chateau Course
Le Chateau offers a more forgiving layout with wide fairways accessible for all handicaps. The first hole starts with a wide fairway surrounded by greenery with water behind the tee. The fifth hole features a downhill drivable par four of around 280 yards, followed by a sixth downhill par four guarded by a stream in front of the green and a hanging tree on the left.
The 13th hole is a 150-yard par three playing like 135 yards over water, with a small dropping area on the green and room to pull right, though shots under 110 yards land in deep rough on a steep hill. The 14th hole is a par five dogleg left allowing players to cut the corner before an uphill approach to a bunker-surrounded green, followed by a hazard-filled 15th par three. Hole 17 requires players to stay left to avoid a steep right-side ditch, while the 18th features an elevated tee box looking over the water, clubhouse, and three adjacent holes, with water on the left and bunkers on the far right.
Rough on the course is deep, though desert-like areas around trees allow lost balls to be found. The general manager reported plans to upgrade the course over the next five years, with ongoing maintenance at the pro shop and ambitions to host future tour events.
Heritage Awali Resort
Heritage Awali Golf and Spa Resort is an African-inspired property named after a Swahili word. The resort provides two main pool areas, including one surrounded by the C Beach Club. Dining options include Savannah, a buffet restaurant serving breakfast and dinner with ham, fresh egg and pasta stations, pancakes, and pizzas. Additional dining includes Zafarani for Indian cuisine, Infinity Blue for seafood with lobster nights, Zenzi bar for lunchtime burgers, and Le Boma for an outdoor African barbecue dinner and show.
The resort sits steps away from a sandy beach with green, shallow sea water that allows guests to walk out approximately 100 yards.
Heritage Le Telfair Resort
Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Wellness Resort sits a two-minute walk from Awali and displays a more modern design. Rooms feature sea view balconies, large bathtubs, modern living setups, and twice-daily housekeeping with evening turn-down service. The property contains three swimming pools, including two heated pools with one designated for adults and a main family heated pool next to the main bar and kitchen.
Dining at Le Telfair includes Annabella's buffet for breakfast and dinner, and Ginja, a Japanese restaurant serving sushi and included wagyu steak. Additional amenities include an ice cream shack, a beach hut offering rental snorkels and pedalos, a photo outlet, and a flower outlet.
Activities and Bel Ombre Reserve
The Seven Colours Spa on the Awali grounds offers couples massages, a sauna, and a cold plunge pool. Steps outside Le Telfair lead to a seashell museum displaying centuries-old shells. The nearby Bel Ombre nature reserve can be explored by buggy, quad bike, or walking trails, featuring waterfall swimming, landscape views, deer, and monkeys. Ocean excursions include dolphin watching, whale watching, and free glass-bottom boat trips.
