On Monday, Amirov’s death was announced by agent Dan Milstein. In February 2022, Amirov, then 20, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In April of the same year, the player attended chemotherapy courses.
– It is incredibly difficult to realize the loss of Rodion. His smile, his joie de vivre and the hockey were contagious. My teammates and I are grateful for the time spent with him and forever inspired by his courageous struggle. Condolences to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed,” Tavares wrote on his social media page.
Amirov graduated from Salavat Yulaev. He has 10 goals and eight assists in 79 KHL games. Amirov was selected 15th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by Toronto. In April 2021, the Russian signed a three-year rookie contract with the Canadian club.
