Washington lost to Florida 2-4 at Sunrise. Ovechkin scored at the end of the first period on the power play.
In total, Ovechkin scored 89 points (44 goals and 45 assists) in 71 games with Florida. No other player scored more points against the Panthers.
Ovechkin increased his NHL goal total to 833, closing the gap on Wayne Gretzky’s record of 61 goals. The 38-year-old Russian ranks second on the list of top scorers in league history, followed by Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894).
This season, Ovechkin has 33 points (11 goals + 22 assists) in 46 games.
