Russian coach Fedor Kanareikin named 20-year-old Metallurg striker Nikita Grebenkina the main opening of the regular season of the Fonbet KHL Championship.
— You know, progress is visible among the young guys from Magnitogorsk, there are a lot of talented hockey players in Yaroslavl.
If I still have to choose one, then Grebenkin was a discovery for me. His progress is visible this season. The guy has excellent characteristics: big and fast. I think he sets high goals and objectives for himself and, more importantly, he strives to achieve them. He was invited to the Russian national team. Obviously his next goal is to go to the National Hockey League, and now he will strive to achieve that,” Kanareikin said, as quoted by Legalbet.
In the current regular KHL championship, Grebenkin played 60 games, in which he scored 37 points (17+20).
Metallurg leads the Eastern Conference. After the 61st game, the Foxes had 86 points.
