Rangers took the lead in the fourth minute when Guilherme Montoia put the ball into his own net. Kajetan Szmyt equalized for Jagiellonia nine minutes later and scored his second goal in the 21st minute to secure the win in hot weather.

Daily Record highlighted the performance of Siemieniec's side, reporting that Jagiellonia showed class in European competition over recent seasons and achieved another impressive victory ahead of the second leg at Ibrox next Thursday. BBC Sport Scotland noted that Szmyt scored his first-half double by exploiting mistakes made by Derek McInnes's side in the first 45 minutes.
The Scottish Sun called the match a disaster for McInnes in his first Champions League fixture as Rangers manager. The publication noted that Rangers fell from a 1-0 lead to a 2-1 deficit in 15 farcical first-half minutes, leaving themselves to blame before the return match at Ibrox after their first defeat to Polish opponents in 57 years.
The second leg between Jagiellonia and Rangers will take place on Thursday, August 13 at 20:30.
