Jan Bednarek was threatened with a knife during a home robbery in Porto that saw £130,000 in jewellery stolen, police say.

Former Southampton defender Jan Bednarek and his family were threatened by a knife-wielding intruder during a robbery at their home in Porto, Portugal.

The burglar reportedly threatened the Polish international before escaping with £130,000 in jewellery, according to Portuguese press.

The crime happened around 9.30pm on Friday when Bednarek surprised the intruder after returning from a restaurant with his wife Julia and their daughter. The 30-year-old and his family were not harmed.

Portugal's PSP police initially responded to the incident and have since handed the investigation to the Policia Judiciaria. Bednarek, who now plays for FC Porto after the club won its 31st league title, has not commented on the robbery on social media.
