The 15-year-old athlete earned the only medal of the day for the Dominican Republic after finishing the race in 26.41 seconds. Marina Spadoni of El Salvador won gold with a time of 26.38 seconds, while Celia Pulido of Mexico took bronze in 26.51 seconds. Spadoni set a new event record, breaking the previous mark set by Arianna Vanderpool of the Bahamas at the 2014 Veracruz Games.
The silver medal was the second of the competition for Amores, who previously won bronze in the 100-meter butterfly on July 30. Her performances marked the first time the Dominican Republic has won a medal in either event. The podium finishes brought the host nation's total to six swimming medals at the Games, including diving.
The Dominican Republic holds sixth place in the overall standings with 68 medals, including 12 gold, 14 silver, and 42 bronze. Mexico leads the medal table with 231 total medals, comprising 104 gold, 71 silver, and 56 bronze. Colombia ranks second with 154 medals, while Cuba stands third with 71 medals.
Men's Basketball Final
The Dominican Republic men's basketball team defeated Mexico 78-65 to advance to the final at the Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto. The host team will face Puerto Rico for the gold medal.
Puerto Rico secured its spot in the final by defeating Belize 111-68 earlier in the day. Isaiah Brown scored 23 points for Puerto Rico, supported by Dwight Gaines with 17 points and Rognny Santiago with 15 points. For Belize, Josiah Moseley scored 20 points and Douglas Langford added 17 points.
Preliminary Boxing Wins
Dominican boxers won all three of their preliminary matches on Saturday. In the men's 80-kilogram division, Noel Pacheco defeated Aaron Hodge Jr. of the British Virgin Islands.
In the women's division, Estéfani Almánzar defeated Katiana Petit-Home of Haiti in the 54-kilogram category. Disney Ezequiel Medina Gómez defeated Sanji Williams of Jamaica 5-0 in the 60-kilogram category.
