Jorge Martín leads MotoGP title battle into Aragon GP

Jorge Martín leads the MotoGP World Championship standings as riders arrive at MotorLand in Teruel for the Aragon Grand Prix. The Spanish event marks the 13th round of the 2026 racing season.

Martín holds a 31-point lead over Marco Bezzecchi in the overall driver standings, with Ai Ogura trailing by 37 points and Marc Márquez sitting 40 points behind the leader. Riding for Aprilia, Martín is looking to maintain his overall advantage after a strong sequence of performances.

The championship returns to action three weeks after Aprilia dominated the previous round at Silverstone in England. Márquez aims to strike back in Teruel at a venue recognized as one of his talismanic circuits, seeking to repeat past victory success and reduce the gap in the standings.

MotorLand circuit and championship standings

MotorLand Aragón is a modern motorsport complex situated in Alcañiz, within the province of Teruel in northeastern Spain. Designed by racetrack architect Hermann Tilke, the venue became a regular fixture on the Grand Prix motorcycle calendar after hosting its inaugural MotoGP event in 2010.

MotoGP is the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle road racing, governed internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme. The series features custom prototype racing motorcycles built by major global manufacturers, with points awarded to top finishers toward the world championship title.

Márquez has historically achieved significant success on the counter-clockwise layout of MotorLand, making the Aragon Grand Prix a key venue in his pursuit of leader Martín. Spanish riders are aiming for prominent performances on home soil in front of local fans.

Rider substitutions and injury updates

Pol Espargaró returns to the MotoGP grid for the Aragon event, replacing Maverick Viñales for the race weekend. Viñales is currently continuing his recovery process from a persistent left shoulder injury.

The ongoing left shoulder issue has caused Viñales recurring trouble throughout the 2026 campaign, preventing him from competing at full physical capacity. Espargaró takes over the ride while Viñales focuses on rehabilitation.

Viñales is an experienced MotoGP race winner who competes alongside Martín for Aprilia Racing, the competition arm of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer based in Noale. Espargaró, a former Moto2 world champion, brings valuable experience to the squad as a replacement rider.

Race weekend program in Teruel

Riders and teams are completing their final preparations and starting grid setups at MotorLand ahead of the main Sunday race distance. The Grand Prix in Teruel offers crucial championship points as the season enters its second half following the summer visit to Silverstone.
