Kickers last opened a season with maximum points during the 2010-11 campaign in the third-tier 3. Liga, when Robert Wulnikowski played in goal and Oliver Occean led the attack. That strong start has now been matched in the fourth-tier Regionalliga Sudwest, driven by a squad transformation following a near-disastrous previous campaign.
The club's early dominance is anchored in three key factors: calm managerial leadership, instant productivity from summer attacking signings, and rigorous physical conditioning introduced by a former military paratrooper.
Managerial Calm and Pragmatism
Head coach Mark Zimmermann, who was born in Thuringia and took charge of Offenbach in mid-March, has provided steady leadership after the team narrowly avoided relegation to the fifth-tier Hessenliga last season. The 52-year-old manager has earned widespread approval from supporters for his calm and deliberate manner, though he remains eager to curb surrounding euphoria.
Speaking after Saturday's 3-1 home victory over the reserve side of FSV Mainz 05, Zimmermann said he refused to call the start a winning streak, adding that he would evaluate the team's progress only after four or five matches.
