Kylian Mbappe Scores Early for Real Madrid Against Schalke

Kylian Mbappé scored five minutes into Real Madrid's final pre-season match to give the Spanish club an early lead against German side Schalke at the Veltins Arena.

The French forward capitalized on a severe defensive error by Ron Schallenberg, seizing a misplaced backpass to beat goalkeeper Loris Karius one-on-one and put Real Madrid 0-1 ahead.

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho named a strong starting lineup for the friendly match, featuring Mbappé alongside Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Brazilian winger Vinicius. Madrid started with high intensity following an opening spell in which Schalke tried to establish a fast tempo without creating danger for Courtois. Schalke's initial attack ended when Schallenberg sent a cross straight over the end line.

Before scoring, Mbappé had already created danger in the German penalty area when he attempted to connect with a low pass from English full-back Trent, though Schalke's defense intercepted the ball. The Frenchman remained active throughout the opening minutes, taking on defenders with feints and combining with teammates as his movement created open spaces against Schalke's back line.

Schalke Mistake and Early Incidents

Turkish midfielder Arda Güler provided another early highlight for Real Madrid, turning skillfully in his own half before being brought down by a late challenge from El-Faouzi. German referee Sören Storks issued a warning to El-Faouzi following the tackle.

The match took place in front of a large crowd at the Veltins Arena, which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its opening. The friendly served as Real Madrid's final warm-up fixture before the start of the official competitive season, allowing Mourinho to evaluate his primary squad options.

Background on the Clubs and Key Figures

Real Madrid, based in the Spanish capital, are one of European football's most decorated clubs, competing in Spain's La Liga. The match provided another opportunity for manager José Mourinho to refine his squad, having selected a near full-strength side including Courtois in goal, Vinicius on the wing, and Mbappé leading the attack.

Schalke 04, located in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, play their home matches at the Veltins Arena, a stadium that opened in 2001 and has hosted major international fixtures and European finals. The German side featured goalkeeper Loris Karius, who faced Mbappé during the crucial early one-on-one encounter.
