Robert Lewandowski scored his first MLS goals in his third Chicago Fire match, netting a brace against Charlotte to hand his side the win.
The Polish striker, who turns 38 on August 21, opened with a tight-angled shot from outside the box, then added a more delicate finish inside the area. Charlotte had taken the lead through Spanish player Pep Bielsa before Lewandowski equalized a minute later and scored the winner in the second half.
Speaking in Spanish, a language he learned during his years at Barcelona, Lewandowski said MLS was something new for him and that he had needed time to adapt, but was improving each week and had felt very good physically during the match.
He added that playing in the United States felt like another world, not only because he had left Europe, and said he was very happy with his teammates, describing them as very open, saying the team could play well together and that he enjoyed each day in Chicago.
Lewandowski played one hour of a 3-2 defeat to Inter Miami on his debut before coming off the bench after halftime in a 3-1 loss to New York City. Against Charlotte he completed the full 90 minutes. MLS had paused for seven weeks for the World Cup before resuming.
