Lucas Digne has signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a three-year deal, moving from Aston Villa, the reigning double European champions announced on Sunday.
The 33-year-old French international left-back was trained at Lille, where he also began his professional career. Born in Meaux, in Seine-et-Marne, Digne returns to PSG, where he previously played for two seasons between 2013 and 2015 before being loaned to AS Roma after struggling for playing time at the Paris club.
Digne said he was particularly impressed by how the club had evolved in recent years, according to the PSG statement. He said he could not wait to begin this new chapter and to put all his experience at the service of the team.
Career path since leaving PSG
After leaving PSG, Digne played for FC Barcelona between 2016 and 2018, then Everton from 2018 to 2022, before joining Aston Villa, where he won the Europa League under manager Unai Emery last season. He now arrives in Paris as a backup to Portuguese left-back Nuno Mendes, a role that was not really filled in PSG's squad last season.
Digne has earned 64 caps for France and played at the 2026 World Cup with the national team. PSG said he will wear the number 12 shirt.
Possible debut against former club
Digne could make his debut in PSG colors against Aston Villa, his former club, on Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg, Austria.
