Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino expressed deep pride in representing the Dominican Republic after winning gold in the mixed 4x400 meter relay at the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
Paulino guided the Dominican victory alongside teammates Erick Sánchez, Anabel Medina, and Christopher Melenciano on Monday, August 3, 2026. The quartet finished first with a time of 3:10.57 to set a new regional record in the event.
Puerto Rico secured the silver medal with a time of 3:11.88, while Cuba took bronze in 3:13.32. Melenciano ran as the third runner to receive the relay baton during the race.
National Pride and Core Values
The sprinter, also known as the Nizao Gazelle, shared her message through social media following the victory. She said she felt deeply proud to represent both the Dominican Republic and Team Pérez alongside her teammate.
Paulino highlighted her humble origins and those of her fellow runners, stating that they were raised with values of humility, discipline, and bravery. She added that these principles form the foundation of their work both on and off the track.

Team Pérez was created for athletes training with coach Yaseen Pérez and his technical staff in the Dominican Republic. Team directors stated that the initiative promotes integration and talent development regardless of an athlete's place of origin.
