Basketball legend Michael Jordan is constructing a new custom luxury lakefront mansion along Lake Norman in Cornelius, North Carolina, exclusive aerial photographs show.
The six-time NBA champion's estate is being built on property purchased by the Jordan Family Gift Trust for $2.8 million in 2013. The site previously featured a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom house with a private pier, which was demolished in March 2025 to make way for the new construction.
Exclusive aerial images show that the main structure and roofing of the house appear to be completed, with exterior finishing work seemingly representing the next phase of construction. The house itself is situated inside the prestigious Peninsula Club golf course community, with photographs showing what appeared to be a tee box and fairway located directly outside the property.
Cornelius is a suburban town located in northern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, along the banks of Lake Norman, the largest man-made body of fresh water in the state. The Lake Norman retreat remains a key piece of the basketball icon's multimillion-dollar real estate empire, ensuring he maintains deep roots in North Carolina.
Elsewhere in North Carolina, Jordan also owns an expansive 7,000-square-foot luxury residence in Uptown Charlotte, the primary commercial district of the state's largest city. The residence was formed by combining two top-floor penthouse condominiums that he acquired in 2010 for $3.15 million.
Expanding Real Estate Footprint in South Florida
Despite his expanding presence in North Carolina, Jordan's primary residence remains a massive compound located within the Bear's Club community in Jupiter, Florida. Founded in 1999 by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, the exclusive gated enclave in Palm Beach County features Jordan's custom 28,000-square-foot estate, which includes extensive athletic facilities and a private basketball court.
Jordan expanded his real estate footprint in the prestigious South Florida enclave in 2024, spending an additional $17 million to acquire a 9,100-square-foot, five-bedroom secondary mansion nearby. Earlier in his relationship with his wife Yvette Prieto, the couple secured an understated three-bedroom suburban home in Miami for around $281,000 in 2008 before establishing their primary compound in Jupiter.
Former Mountain Retreats and Historic Chicago Holdings
The Basketball Hall of Famer also previously owned a secluded mountain getaway in Park City, Utah. Jordan purchased the 9,500-square-foot contemporary retreat overlooking the Glenwild Golf Club for $7.9 million in 2007 before selling the property in late 2020. Park City is a renowned resort town in Summit County, Utah, celebrated for its mountain views and private golf clubs.
During his championship reign with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s, Jordan lived in an 8,000-square-foot luxury penthouse overlooking Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois. Following his 2006 divorce from ex-wife Juanita Vanoy, the property was transferred to Vanoy and subsequently sold in 2014.
His most famous property remains the sprawling 56,000-square-foot Champions Point estate in Highland Park, Illinois, an affluent suburb located north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. Featuring his iconic number 23 front gate, the estate finally sold in December 2024 for $9.5 million after remaining on the market for 12 years.
Uncertainty Over NBC Sports Television Role
The emergence of images showing Jordan's new North Carolina residence comes during a period of transition in his media career. It was recently revealed that the former NBA star will not be part of NBC Sports' basketball coverage next season.
Jordan sparked widespread interest last May when it was announced that he would join NBC Sports as a special contributor. NBC Sports serves as the athletic broadcasting branch of the American television network NBC. However, rather than providing regular studio analysis and insight, Jordan conducted just one interview with NBC host Mike Tirico, which was broadcast across multiple weeks of the NBA season. The limited appearances triggered a backlash from some television viewers.
According to reporting from Front Office Sports, Jordan is unlikely to return for the 2026/27 season. The Daily Mail has contacted NBC for comment regarding his status with the network.
Following the complaints regarding Jordan's limited contributions last season, Tirico defended the basketball star. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Tirico explained the athlete's schedule and existing commitments. "Michael doesn't talk much, as you know. Michael still has so many interests in the game, business interests, with a piece of the [Charlotte] Hornets and obviously his involvement with [Jordan Brand]," Tirico told Sports Illustrated.
