David Moyes has said Everton's new owners are "still finding" their way at the club, and revealed he has not spoken to them since Tuesday's frantic transfer deadline day.
The Toffees said farewell to Iliman Ndiaye and Beto late in the window, leaving Moyes with just one recognised centre forward in Thierno Barry. Tim Iroegbunam and Natthan Patterson also left, and any positivity from the arrivals of Jack Grealish and Ainsley Maitland-Niles was soured by the collapse of a deal for Folarin Balogun.
Moyes is now left with just 18 senior outfield players, resulting in fury among the fanbase directed at the club's owners, The Friedkin Group.
"I think if you want to have success, you need to be aligned on the same things," Moyes said. "All those parts are so important. I think we have new owners who are finding their way in at the club. I think as we get to know each other a bit better, it will get better."
Villa Leave Out Deadline Day Signing Harwood-Bellis
Unai Emery has left £30million signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis out of Aston Villa's squad for the Champions League phase. The defender was signed from Southampton towards the end of August but was not included in the 25-man squad, even though there are only three other orthodox centre-backs on the list.
Villa say the decision is not related to the UEFA settlement agreement, which restricts the club to spending no more than it earns on transfers and wages.
"It's a hard decision," said Emery, who also left 17-year-old forward Brian Madjo out in favour of Tammy Abraham, even though Villa wanted to sell Abraham this summer. Madjo is currently injured and will miss at least one European fixture.
"Taylor was the last player to arrive in the window and we can get balance with Lamare Bogarde playing at centre-back, and even Boubacar Kamara can play there," Emery said. "Taylor has signed here for a long time and he will stay here for a long time. Hopefully he will have chance to play in Europe with us, after January maybe but hopefully next year."
Richarlison Told De Zerbi He Wanted To Leave Spurs
Roberto De Zerbi has said Richarlison told him he wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur, and admitted he does not know if the striker will move to Turkey before that country's deadline. The Brazilian was left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad after a move to Everton fell through on deadline day.
"Richarlison decided everything alone," the Spurs boss said. "He spoke with me at the beginning of pre season and told me his desire was to leave and in the end we went to bring another striker because I said at the beginning of preseason I only want players who have the passion to stay. All the other problems are not my responsibility. I didn't decide anything."
"I don't know if there is an offer from Turkey. I don't know if the club accept the offer. I know there was an offer before transfer market closed and he didn't accept. But for me nothing changed," De Zerbi added.
Arteta On Guimaraes Fitness And Arsenal's Summer
Mikel Arteta confirmed Bruno Guimaraes is recovering well and likely to train on Saturday for this weekend's game against Chelsea. "He had a knock against Aston Villa in the previous game and he's been assessed. Hopefully tomorrow he will be OK for training," the Arsenal manager said.
Arteta also defended Arsenal's mixed summer transfer window. After defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest, he had called on Arsenal to be "very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart" over the summer. Arsenal were linked with Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez but did not sign a frontline forward of that calibre.
Asked if those aims had been met ahead of Sunday's match against Chelsea, Arteta said: "Yeah, 100 per cent ticked. The outcome after can be different to what you expect, but the intention is certainly there, which is, in my opinion, what I value the most."
Carrick 'Largely Happy' Despite Missing Left-Back
Michael Carrick said he is "largely happy" with Manchester United's transfer window despite the club's failure to sign a left-back. "We went into the window wanting to come out stronger from the group we had last season," the United boss said ahead of Sunday's trip to Everton.
"We've definitely added to that, and it's good work in that respect. The situation is what it is in terms of finances. I think we've done some really good business," Carrick said. "We obviously had things we needed to fill and improve the group, but I think we've got a good balance and players that are flexible throughout the team."
Maresca Hails 'Complete' Manchester City Squad
Enzo Maresca described his Manchester City squad as "complete" after landing his former Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez for a joint-British transfer record £125million on deadline day, along with Everton's Ndiaye for £60million.
"I'm very, very happy! Very happy for the effort from the ownership," Maresca said ahead of Saturday's home game against Coventry City. "I know Enzo quite well, I know what he can bring to the team. He's a winner, has a winning mentality, he knows how to win, World Cup, Club World Cup."
On Ndiaye, he added: "He's so good! In the last two days, you can see already how good he is in terms of one-v-one, the last third, inside the box. I'm very happy to have him with us."
Brighton's 'Baby Rodri' And A Wieffer Blow
Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler hopes new signing Chema Andres can one day live up to comparisons with Spain World Cup winner Rodri. The 21-year-old defensive midfielder, a former Real Madrid player, joined from Stuttgart on deadline day for a reported £15.5million and has been dubbed "Baby Rodri." He could make his debut against Leeds United on Saturday, though fellow new arrival Femi Azeez will miss out with a minor injury sustained at his previous club, Millwall.
"Rodri is one of the best players in the world so it's a long journey, but we will help him to get there," Hurzeler said. "You can really feel that he's very ambitious, and therefore I can understand this comparison but it's still a long way to go."
Brighton midfielder Mats Wieffer has been ruled out for the next four matches with a knee injury sustained after he was struck in the face by the ball during Sunday's 4-3 defeat at Chelsea.
Lampard Warns Coventry Of A Harder Season
Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has told his players they must get used to losing this season, after back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Hull City. The Sky Blues, promoted last season, travel to Manchester City this weekend, where Lampard once played.
"We all know that it will not look like last season, and the quicker we realise that the better, because last season was an incredible season for us because we won a lot," Lampard said. "It's important that we understand the rigours of the Premier League, how it may feel different, and that mindset has to be clear."
Lampard spent well over £100million reshaping his squad this summer. "I'm happy with the players that we brought in," he added. "We had a lot of work to do in the summer. I think it's quite normal for teams that get promoted and we've done the work."
Hull Wary Of Aston Villa's Overhaul
Hull City, this season's surprise package, host Aston Villa on Saturday chasing a third straight win. Manager Sergej Jakirovic said facing Villa was a challenge given the club's extensive transfer activity, with Ezri Konsa, Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne, Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins all leaving over the summer, while new arrivals include Nicolas Jackson, Alejandro Garnacho, Swiss World Cup player Johan Manzambi, goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, formerly of Manchester United.
"It's a difficult game for us, Aston Villa might not have had a great start because there's been a lot of change and they've lost several excellent players," Jakirovic said. "I'm aware that they will need time because they have signed 10 new players and they lost seven players that to me were excellent players."
"They need time but they are still dangerous, especially with players like John McGinn, who has very high levels of individual qualities. Our performance must be excellent," he added.
