The absence of major international competitions affects the level of the Russian national volleyball team, but every player is still striving to improve, the player of the Russian team told . Arina Fedorovtseva .
On Wednesday, the Russian women’s team beat Belarus 3-0 in a friendly match in Moscow.
– I really missed the Russian team! Of course, I want to feel the feeling that occurs during major international competitions. But even today’s match with the Belarus team was pleasant for all players, especially those who made their debut in this team. Today we played with good energy, but not everything worked out for us because we played with new balls and didn’t train in this gym. I don’t want to look for excuses, but we tried to get back to our game as quickly as possible and correct the errors.
– You are already the leader of the Russian team. How do you rate the current newcomers and youngsters who are now called up to the Russian national team?
– We have a young, bright and very energetic team, everyone wants to do their best. The energy and the atmosphere in the team are simply incredible! You can ask any of our players, everyone will say it.
– This season, the Nations League and the European Championship – without the Russian team. How do you rate the importance of these tournaments without us?
— You can only assess the level of the tournament by playing it. At least for a professional player. I don’t want to give any rating. I hope we will be on the world stage again as soon as possible. As for the next European Championship, in any case I will follow the results, I will also try to watch the matches.
– Does the absence of major international competitions affect the level of the Russian national team?
– Yes of course. But inside each of our players there is a desire to improve their level, no matter what. Now each player tries to progress as much as he can. And that’s what helps us to move forward and not stand still in the absence of big matches, Fedorovtseva told .
In June, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) extended the suspension of teams and athletes from Russia and Belarus from international competitions. It has also been decided not to display the national teams of Russia and Belarus in the world rankings for the period of their non-participation in the events, but their ranking points remain frozen in accordance with the decision of the Board of Directors of the FIVB from October 2022.
