Paris Saint-Germain scored two goals in stoppage time through Vitinha and Marquinhos to rescue a dramatic 2-2 draw against LOSC Lille in their Ligue 1 fixture at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Friday evening.
Lille appeared to have secured victory after Hakon Haraldsson opened the scoring in the first half and substitute Remy Bakwa doubled the lead late in the second half. However, PSG struck twice in three minutes at the end of the match to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
The result leaves reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain on four points from their opening two matches, following an earlier draw at Rennes, while Lille sit sixth in the standings on two points. Stade Pierre-Mauroy, located in Villeneuve-d'Ascq in northern France, hosted the Matchday 2 clash as Lille sought their first victory over the Parisian side since 2021.
Haraldsson gives Lille early lead
Lille took the lead in the 21st minute following a defensive lapse from the visiting side. Former France international striker Olivier Giroud provided a delicate short pass to Hakon Haraldsson, who fired a powerful strike past PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
The Icelandic playmaker capitalized after an earlier opening for Mbappe was missed. Lille executed their tactical plan effectively throughout the first half, restricting PSG from finding attacking rhythm despite the visitors dominating possession.
PSG manager Luis Enrique reacted at half-time by replacing Desire Doue with Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The substitution came after Paris struggled for inspiration during an opening period in which young midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery and defender Lucas Beraldo suffered difficult outings.
Tension builds in physical second half
Paris Saint-Germain increased their physical intensity after the break, recording 85 percent possession during a 15-minute spell. However, they struggled to convert control into clear opportunities against a disciplined Lille defense.
Lille captain and midfield key figure Benjamin Andre received a yellow card in the 53rd minute after pulling down Fabian Ruiz on a swift counter-attack. Andre expressed frustration at the booking despite halting Ruiz as the midfielder broke into open space.
Three minutes later, Andre committed another late challenge on Ferran Torres, narrowly escaping a red card. Two minutes later, Bakwa doubled Lille's lead in the 85th minute. Receiving the ball on the right wing, Bakwa held off defender Lucas Digne and curled a delicate left-footed shot into the top corner beyond Safonov's reach.
Stoppage time drama at Pierre-Mauroy
Lille looked set to celebrate their first win over PSG after ten consecutive attempts without victory. However, Vitinha sparked hope for the visitors in the 90th minute by curling a precise shot into the top corner past Lille goalkeeper Ozer to make it 2-1.
Kvaratskhelia flashed a dangerous cross across the six-yard box in the 92nd minute, but no Paris attacker could connect. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Safonov ran forward into the Lille penalty area for a final corner kick.
The initial delivery was cleared, but the second ball fell to Vitinha, who delivered a sublime cross into the box. Brazilian defender and team captain Marquinhos rose highest to head past Ozer in the 95th minute to level the match at 2-2 on the final whistle.
Lille frustration over stoppage time
Lille players and coaching staff voiced strong dissatisfaction with the match officials after the final whistle. The assistant referee had originally signaled three minutes of added time, but Marquinhos scored the equalizer in the 95th minute following delays.
