Greek club PAOK travel to Norway to face SK Brann on Thursday, August 27, in the decisive match for Europa Conference League qualification.
The tie remains wide open following a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki, leaving both sides competing for a place in the League Phase.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the match, PAOK head coach Alessio Lisi insisted that his team is fully prepared and handling the occasion without pressure. Lisi stated that the team came to live the challenge and must learn to live with pressure, adding that his players are very ready for the game.
Addressing the squad's mental state, Lisi noted that his team feels strong mentally. He described Brann as a tough and difficult opponent, echoing the first leg, and explained that PAOK will need to control difficult situations on the pitch as they remain determined to secure qualification.
Squad rotation and team spirit
Lisi highlighted the unity within his squad, referencing a moment when midfielder Dimitris Pelkas embraced him after scoring in a recent domestic match against Levadiakos. The Italian manager expressed joy at managing a group with great values, describing team unity as the key to their success while praising the talent and value of Pelkas as a player.
The manager also defended his decision to make extensive changes to the starting lineup against Levadiakos. Lisi explained that several squad members were carrying a heavy workload following the first match against Brann and could not play. He stated that he maintains full confidence in his entire roster, adding that every player who featured against Brann and Levadiakos proved they are capable of playing in Thursday's encounter.
Physical condition and transfer plans
Regarding physical fitness, Lisi acknowledged noticing a difference in condition between the two teams during the second half of the first leg at Toumba. However, he emphasized that PAOK view the return match as a final, stating that the team came to Norway to play with their heart rather than relying on physical condition alone.
Lisi was also asked about the potential transfer of Ugresic and whether the player's characteristics would alter team plans. The coach clarified that the move is not yet official, but noted that if completed, it would represent an excellent addition demonstrating the direction and strategy of the club. He stressed that the immediate focus remains solely on Brann and securing a place in European competition.
