Piast Gliwice beat Wisla Krakow 4-3 in a chaotic Ekstraklasa away fixture, handing the Krakow club their first defeat since returning to the top division.
Wisla had opened the season with a 2-1 home win over GKS Katowice, while Piast came in having lost 0-2 to Zaglebie Lubin in a poor display. The match, however, produced the opposite of cautious football, with both sides attacking without restraint throughout.
The result exposed what the report described as significant defensive shortcomings for Wisla, a weakness that had also plagued the club during its years in the second tier.
Hours after the final whistle, Wisla president Jaroslaw Krolewski posted a message to supporters. He said drawing far-reaching conclusions at this stage of the season was a mistake, arguing that any result before matchday five to seven should be considered a statistical anomaly.
Krolewski said he was satisfied with his team’s attitude but acknowledged the defeat was deserved. He described the Ekstraklasa as a league of pragmatism and said the competition teaches how much details matter.
Wisla return home in round three to face Wisla Plock on Friday, August 7 at 20:30. Piast travel to Poznan two days later to meet Lech at 17:30.
