Tuesday's fixture opens the league phase format that UEFA introduced in the 2024-25 season, replacing the old group stage with a single 36-team table. Each club plays eight different opponents, with the top eight advancing directly to the round of 16 and the remaining places decided by a play-off round.
The Estádio do Dragão opened in 2003 and is Porto's home ground, with a capacity of more than 50,000. It hosted matches at Euro 2004, including the final.
Lineups
Porto manager Francesco Farioli named Diogo Costa in goal behind a back four of Alberto Costa, Nehuén Pérez, Jakub Kiwior and Martim Fernandes. Pablo Rosario, Varela and Gabri Veiga make up the midfield, with William Gomes, André Silva and Pepê leading the attack.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca picked Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal, with Josko Gvardiol, Marc Guehi, Rúben Dias and Matheus Nunes across the back line. Bouaddi, Enzo Fernández and Cherki play in midfield, while Phil Foden, Semenyo and Erling Haaland form the front three.
Club history
Porto have won the European Cup and Champions League twice, in 1987 and 2004, while Manchester City lifted the trophy for the first time in 2023. Tuesday's meeting is the first game of matchday one in the competition's 36-team league phase.
