FC Porto claimed the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira for a record 25th time on Saturday, beating second-division side Torreense 1-0 at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra and taking the first trophy of the 2025/26 Portuguese football season.
Victor Froholdt headed home the only goal of the contest at the 38-minute mark. The Danish player arrived unmarked at the back post to meet a cross from Pepê, who had found space in the corner of the area and delivered the ball with precision across goal. The finish gave Italian head coach Francesco Farioli’s Porto side the lead, and the national champions held it for the rest of the match.
Porto extend their all-time record to 25 titles
The victory moves Porto further ahead in the all-time Supertaça standings. They now hold 25 titles in the competition, with Benfica second on 10 and Sporting third on nine. Torreense, who entered the match as holders of the Taça de Portugal, have never won the Supertaça.
Cup holders tested Porto throughout
Despite being a division below Porto, Torreense proved competitive across the 90 minutes and created a number of chances. Karem Zoabi went close from inside the area after being set up by Leo Azevedo, and both Dany Jean and Leo Azevedo had further shots that required Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa to be alert. Musa Drammeh also tested Costa with a header from a Dany Jean cross into the box. Javi Vázquez was a consistent creative outlet in the Torreense attack throughout the match, and the Cup holders earned corners late on as they pushed for an equaliser.
The contest was stopped more than once due to injuries to Torreense players. Alejandro Alfaro and Dany Jean both went off during the match, while Adriel also required attention from medical staff.
Porto had multiple chances to extend their lead but could not find a second goal. Hwang In-Beom had a left-footed effort from outside the area saved after being set up by Borja Sainz, while Alan Varela went close from distance and William Gomes narrowly missed from the right side of the six-yard box following a counter-attack in which Pepê played the decisive pass. André Silva, Gabri Veiga and Jan Bednarek were also among the Porto players to have attempts on goal, but none could add to Froholdt’s header.
Six yellow cards were issued in total. Porto had Kiwior, Pablo Rosario and William Gomes booked, while Torreense collected cautions for Dany Jean, Luis Quintero and David Bruno.
