Real Madrid vs Deportivo Match Coincides With Eclipse

Real Madrid will face RC Deportivo in the Teresa Herrera Trophy match in A Coruña on August 12 as a total solar eclipse passes over the city. The coincidence of the pre-season match and the astronomical event is expected to triple the normal population of the Galician city within a few hours. Television networks TVG and La 1 will broadcast the game live from Riazor Stadium starting at 21:00 hours.

The solar eclipse has generated international scientific expectation ahead of its visible phase beginning at 19:30 hours. The phenomenon will reach its climax at 20:28 hours, when the Paseo Marítimo will enter total darkness for 1 minute and 16 seconds. This represents the first total solar eclipse of its kind over Spanish soil in several decades.

The 80 seconds of total shadow will align precisely with the pre-match routines at Riazor Stadium. Footballers from both teams will be forced to complete their warm-up exercises under an unreal twilight atmosphere shortly before kick-off.

Expectation is high for the match as Real Madrid returns to compete in one of Spain's most important summer tournaments. Host club RC Deportivo enters the match with seven new players on its squad, featuring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as its main star signing to ignite the transfer market.

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is focused on integrating summer additions and managing the workload of players returning from the World Cup. The fixture allows spectators to see new faces in action, including Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, and young forward Carlos Espí, as the team builds match sharpness before the league season starts.

With many international players recently back from the World Cup tournament, the match serves as a final pre-season test. The coaching staff will use the game to refine team routines and evaluate the physical condition of the squad.

Deportivo transfers and Real Madrid squad updates

The previous Teresa Herrera Trophy matchup between the two clubs took place in 2013. A star-studded Real Madrid team earned a dominant 0-4 victory over Deportivo at Riazor Stadium.

Kaká headlined the 2013 game with a brilliant performance, scoring two goals. Morata and Casemiro scored the other goals to secure Real Madrid's ninth Hércules Tower trophy from Galician soil.
