Three-time Olympic figure skating champion Irina Rodnina has given her assessment of Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova, who will open a figure skating school in Kazan on August 30. Her comments were carried by RT.
Rodnina said it was very hard to judge Zagitova's coaching abilities, questioning why she should be compared to anyone else. She noted that many leading specialists in the sport have achieved nothing, while the opposite has also proven true, adding that there is no formula for success.
Limited experience
Rodnina said she believes Zagitova lacks sufficient experience in figure skating. She said Zagitova ended her competitive career quickly, describing her as very obedient and capable, and said it is hard to speak of her having shown great independence in the sport. Rodnina said Zagitova achieved results through talent and hard work, and that it remains to be seen what kind of personality she will show now.
Zagitova recently said she had received a master's degree, having graduated from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration with a degree in producing and cultural policy.
