Ruby White has vowed to seek "revenge" on India's Sakshi Chaudhary after losing to her in the women's 51kg gold medal bout at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 19-year-old, unbeaten in 71 fights heading into the final, lost 5-0 to Chaudhary to take silver, in a tournament that came just months after she joined the Great Britain Boxing academy in May.
"When I'm a little bit more experienced in the senior ranks, I want to get my revenge!" White said. "I was a little bit underprepared for the fight. I had a lot of pressure on me, first multi-sport games, first senior tournament. So I know I can get in there and win - I've just got to change the game plan a little bit more."
Reflecting on an "amazing" tournament
Despite the final defeat, White said she preferred to focus on the positives from a tournament she had dreamed of competing at since childhood.
"I had four very good fights and lost out on the finals. But to reflect back on it, being 19 and to go to the Commonwealth Games after only being selected for GB a couple of months prior, and to come back with silver in my first major tournament, it's amazing," she said.
White said she was "very upset" in the ring after the defeat but is "on a good path and everything's been amazing ever since." She said it is all experience as an amateur until reaching the Olympics, when it really matters, but that the Commonwealth Games was "such an amazing start."
"From seven years old, I worked it out: I always dreamt of going to the 2026 Commonwealth Games and then the 2028 Olympics," she said. "I'm on the right track to be at such a big tournament. To come away with silver is an achievement, and I'm happy."
Nicola Adams' message of support
White's run in Glasgow has caught the attention of names across British boxing, but she said the message that stood out most came from Nicola Adams, the two-time Olympic gold medallist she counts as an idol.
"Nicola Adams - she surprised me on the radio, and she told me that I'm amazing and I'm on the right track and to keep focused," White said.
White said she is now setting her sights on Olympic gold in Los Angeles in 2028.
"[An Olympic gold medal] would be absolutely amazing. I'm just really going to keep training and living life like an athlete. Hopefully I can get to LA and I can bring that gold medal home," she said.
