Sevilla FC sports director José Ignacio Navarro has outlined the club's remaining transfer window strategy during the official presentation of new signings Robbie Ure and Giorgi Kochorashvili in Seville.
The Andalusian club has made a strong start to the new LaLiga season with two consecutive victories, but Navarro confirmed that squad restructuring remains active ahead of the September 2 transfer deadline. Sevilla have already recorded 15 departures and eight new arrivals during the summer window.
Head coach Luis García Plaza has repeatedly requested further reinforcements to ensure the squad remains fully competitive across all competitions. Navarro addressed those requests by stating that the sporting management is working along good lines, noting that several days remain before the window closes and that everyone at the club shares the goal of building a competitive team.
Salary Cap Management and Negotiation Challenges
Addressing financial constraints and the club's wage bill, Navarro urged calm regarding Sevilla's spending capacity. He emphasized that the primary roadmap is to complete all market activity successfully by September 2.
Navarro explained that Sevilla retain the financial capability to conduct additional transfer business, but noted that incoming transfers will depend directly on outgoing player departures. He described the final week of the transfer window as a complex period requiring alignment between buying clubs, selling clubs, and players, adding that predicting final outcomes during this period is exceptionally difficult.
Resolving Unsettled Player Futures
Several first-team players face uncertain futures at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium as the deadline approaches. Navarro noted that until the transfer window closes, any player could potentially join or depart the club.
Regarding midfielder Lucien Agoumé, Navarro acknowledged the player's high market standing and attractive technical profile, making him a valuable asset in current negotiations. Addressing winger Rubén Vargas, Navarro recognized that operating while the transfer window remains open creates challenges, adding that nothing can be ruled out before September 2 and that the club will not compromise ongoing operations.
Navarro also clarified the situations surrounding defender Adrià Pedrosa and Portuguese center-back Fábio Cardoso. He revealed that Pedrosa has been informed that he does not feature in the coaching staff's sporting plans, with Sevilla open to offers from interested clubs. Concerning Cardoso, Navarro stated that the player was notified on the first day of pre-season that he was not in the club's plans, while praising Cardoso as an exemplary professional who continues to work hard while awaiting his opportunity. Defender Marcao also remains among the unresolved squad situations currently being handled by club executives.
Securing New Talent and Squad Depth
Reflecting on the recruitment of Scottish striker Robbie Ure and Georgian midfielder Giorgi Kochorashvili, Navarro shared insight into the negotiation process. He revealed that Sevilla had tracked Ure for a long time, securing his signature despite late interest from wealthier rival clubs. Navarro emphasized that Sevilla's overarching directive is to assemble a youthful squad driven by enthusiasm.
Negotiations for Kochorashvili from Levante proved prolonged due to differing player valuations between the two clubs. Navarro explained that Sevilla remained firm during talks because every cent counts toward LaLiga's strict squad spending limit.
Navarro concluded by projecting a final first-team squad size of 20 to 22 players, confirming that members of Sevilla's youth academy will be called upon to supplement the senior group throughout the season.
