A Sky Bet customer turned a £5 stake into £1,422.69 after landing an eight-leg Build-A-Bet during Chelsea's 3-2 win at Fulham on Monday night.

The punter secured the lucrative four-figure payout with the help of the UK bookmaker's new Ghost Leg feature, which rescued the wager after seven of the eight selections came in.

The only failing selection was for Fulham midfielder Sander Berge to receive a card. Instead of rendering the entire accumulator a loss, Sky Bet's Ghost Leg feature intervened to remove the losing leg and settled the remaining seven selections as a winner at revised odds, yielding a winning return at a reduced payout.

In sports betting, an accumulator or bet builder allows gamblers to combine several individual wagers on a single match into a single ticket, where every selection traditionally must win for the bet to pay out. Sky Bet, a major UK bookmaking brand, offers custom combination bets through its Build-A-Bet service for high-profile football matches including the west London derby between Premier League rivals Chelsea and Fulham.

How the Ghost Leg feature works

The Ghost Leg promotion is available on Sky Bet Build-A-Bets that feature five or more selections at combined odds of 3/1 or greater.

Under the rules of the offer, if exactly one leg in the bet loses, customers can use a Ghost Leg token to remove that single losing selection. The rest of the bet then settles as a winner at recalculated odds, provided that no legs in the bet have been voided.

Winning selections and odds

The punter's successful selections covered match goals, individual scorers, and disciplinary cards across the five-goal encounter at Fulham:

  • Chelsea to win & both teams to score - Won (3.48)
  • Morgan Rogers to score or assist - Won (1.12)
  • Romeo Lavia to be carded - Won (2.25)
  • Joao Pedro to score in 90 minutes - Won (1.50)
  • Gonzalo Garcia to score in 90 minutes - Won (2.25)
  • Levi Colwill to be carded - Won (3.00)
  • Timothy Castagne to be carded - Won (3.35)

The eighth selection on the ticket, Sander Berge to be carded at odds of 2.81, was the only leg to lose before the Ghost Leg feature reprieved the wager.

Bookmaker response

A spokesperson from Sky Bet commented on the outcome following the successful Monday night wager.

"Losing a leg usually means the end of a bet, but that's exactly what the Ghost Leg feature is there for," the Sky Bet spokesperson said.

"Being able to remove Sander Berge's card and still see a four-figure return come in shows just how valuable a second chance can be."
